ISO/IEC FDIS 25059: the record, and its limits
The second edition is at stage 50.00, final text received or FDIS registered for formal approval, recorded on 23 July 2026. It will replace ISO/IEC 25059:2023. This page states what ISO records, what the public draft shows, and what neither proves.
ISO/IEC FDIS 25059, Edition 2
Committee ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42, artificial intelligence. ICS 35.080. Stage 50.00 on 23 July 2026. It will replace the 2023 edition.
The title is now plural
The published edition is titled Quality model for AI systems. The draft and the FDIS are titled Quality models for AI systems. The change matches the move from one model to three.
The FDIS text
ISO does not publish the FDIS. There is no public clause level diff. This site reads the public draft and labels every change line as draft, not final.

What the dates do and do not say
The planning date is 15 February 2027. It is an estimate 120 days from the scout date of 18 October 2026, chosen for this site and labelled an estimate wherever it appears. ISO has published no publication date. The first edition took 138 days from stage 50.00 to publication, from 10 February 2023 to 28 June 2023. The second edition reached 50.00 on 23 July 2026, and the next stage had no date when this page was retrieved. The 50.20 step is therefore behind the first edition's pace; publication is not yet late against the 138-day comparison.
There is no mandatory transition. ISO/IEC 25059 is a quality model, not a management system standard. It is not certifiable and there is no accreditation or transition scheme for it. The planning date schedules the buyer's own re-baseline. It creates no deadline and no audit.
What the public draft shows
The public draft (ISO/IEC DIS 25059:2025) was circulated for enquiry from 18 December 2025 to 13 March 2026. Its foreword lists four technical changes: alignment with the 2023 product quality model, alignment with the 2023 quality-in-use model, an AI service quality model, and environmental sustainability. Its contents show three models and a larger product quality table. The change page sets each one against the 2023 edition.
How to read the change on this site
- Confirmed means ISO records it: the title, edition, stage, dates and committee.
- Public draft means the draft shows it, and the FDIS may differ.
- Our reading means the connection we draw between the draft and a buyer's work, labelled as ours.
- Not public means the FDIS text or a clause level diff, which this site does not invent.
The rules this is built from
Every line names its source. The 25 records are written from the published ISO/IEC 25059:2023, in our words, with the clause cited. The change layer is read from the public draft of the second edition and the ISO stage record. Where the public record is silent, the page says so.
Clause by clause, and the annexes
Each page states what the model element is, what the 2023 edition said, what the public draft changes, the evidence a reviewer asks for and the common gaps.
Open the recordThe change, labelled
The second edition adds a service model and environmental sustainability, and moves two characteristics to better parents. Each page says which and why.
What changesNo invented date
The FDIS is at 50.00. ISO records no publication date. The planning date is an estimate and is labelled wherever it appears.
