Clause 2: Normative references
The model stands on a small set of normative references: the product quality model, the quality-in-use model, the AI concepts and terminology standard, and the machine learning framework standard.
What clause 2 is
The model stands on a small set of normative references: the product quality model, the quality-in-use model, the AI concepts and terminology standard, and the machine learning framework standard. The first edition cited the 2011 product quality model. The second edition cites the 2023 product quality model and the 2023 quality-in-use model, and keeps the AI terminology and machine learning references.
What the 2023 edition said
The first edition cited the 2011 product quality model, the AI concepts and terminology standard and the machine learning framework standard.
What the second edition changes
The 2011 reference is replaced by the 2023 product quality model and the 2023 quality-in-use model. Both were published in November 2023.
The FDIS text is not public. The change line above is read from the public draft, which is not the FDIS and may differ. No clause level diff is invented here. The ISO stage record is the authority for the dates.
Why it matters to the buyer
This is the smallest and most consequential change in the document. The 2011 product quality model was withdrawn and replaced by a 2023 edition whose quality-in-use part moved to a separate standard and which added safety as a top-level characteristic. A requirement set built on the older reference inherits the older vocabulary.
What to write in the requirement
Search the quality plan, the model cards and the procurement templates for the 2011 reference. Replace it with the 2023 pair, and check the vocabulary that changed with it, including interaction capability in place of usability and flexibility in place of portability.
Evidence a reviewer asks for
A reviewer will open the quality plan at the reference list. A 2011 reference in a current plan is a finding.
- Reference registerA list of every document that cites the 2011 or the 2023 base model, with the date each was checked
- Change noteThe vocabulary changes applied to live requirements, with the old and new term side by side
- Supplier evidenceThe reference list from each supplier's quality documentation, with the edition named
Where it commonly fails
- The quality plan still cites the 2011 base model
- Usability and portability are used with their old meanings
- Suppliers cite an edition nobody checked
What to do before publication
Replace the reference and the vocabulary in the same edit. A new reference with the old terms reads as a cosmetic change.
