Annex A: SQuaRE

Carried forwardISO/IEC 25059:2023, Annex APublished edition 2023Second edition at FDIS

An informative annex that places the document in the SQuaRE series and shows which standard covers which part of the quality picture.

What annex A is

An informative annex that places the document in the SQuaRE series and shows which standard covers which part of the quality picture. It exists to stop a reader treating this document as the whole of SQuaRE. Nothing in it is normative.

Annex A is informative. It adds no requirement. It places the document in the SQuaRE series.

What the 2023 edition said

The first edition carried an informative annex on the SQuaRE series, with a note on the series divisions.

What the second edition changes

The annex is kept, and the series it describes has changed: the product quality model and the quality-in-use model are now separate standards.

What is not public

The FDIS text is not public. The change line above is read from the public draft, which is not the FDIS and may differ. No clause level diff is invented here. The ISO stage record is the authority for the dates.

Why it matters to the buyer

A reader who treats 25059 as a complete quality framework will miss the base standards it extends. The annex is the map that prevents that mistake. It also shows why the second edition had to change: the SQuaRE series it sits in was restructured in 2023, so the base documents named in a 2023 quality plan may no longer be the current ones.

What to write in the requirement

Use the annex to name the base standards in the quality plan. Cite the product and quality-in-use standards directly for the inherited characteristics rather than citing 25059 for everything. Where the plan predates the restructure, replace the base references and the characteristic names that moved with them.

Evidence a reviewer asks for

A reviewer will ask which standard supplies an inherited characteristic. Citing 25059 alone is incomplete.

  • Reference listThe base standards cited, with the edition and the part of the model each supplies
  • Model mapThe characteristics inherited from each base standard, marked as inherited rather than restated
  • Review recordThe date the base references were checked against the editions in force

Where it commonly fails

  • The quality plan cites only 25059
  • The base editions are not named

What to do before publication

Add the base standards to the reference list.
