Clause 7.3: Service adaptability
Service adaptability describes how far the service can be adapted to the situation: its functions, who is responsible, the skill of the staff, the way it communicates with users and the instruments available.
What clause 7.3 is
Service adaptability describes how far the service can be adapted to the situation: its functions, who is responsible, the skill of the staff, the way it communicates with users and the instruments available. It is about the service wrapping the model, not about the model learning.
What the 2023 edition said
No equivalent.
What the second edition changes
New in the second edition. It is a characteristic of the service model, and customizability is a narrower, user-directed part of it.
The FDIS text is not public. The change line above is read from the public draft, which is not the FDIS and may differ. No clause level diff is invented here. The ISO stage record is the authority for the dates.
Why it matters to the buyer
Two customers can buy the same model and get very different service. Adaptability is the quality that explains the difference, and the part a buyer can write into a contract. It also protects the provider: a clear adaptation range is a defensible answer when a customer asks for a change that would break the evaluation.
What to write in the requirement
Describe what can be adapted, who decides, and what has to stay fixed for safety or fairness. Record the staff competence the service depends on and the change log for each adaptation. Name the elements that are fixed by contract, because an undefined range is read by the customer as unlimited.
Evidence a reviewer asks for
A reviewer will ask what the provider can change without telling the customer, and what the customer can change without the provider.
- Configuration recordWhat can be adapted, the default and the approved range for each element
- Competence recordThe staff skills the service depends on and how they are maintained
- Change logEach adaptation, the date, the reason and the effect on the service
Where it commonly fails
- The adaptation range is undefined
- Staff competence is assumed
- Changes are not logged
What to do before publication
Write the adaptation range and the change log before the next contract renewal.
